COME HELL OR HIGH WATER
When two sides don't agree
It's no longer about you or me
It's not about right or wrong
But more often about how long
How long can we hold out?
How much louder can we shout
We both may think we have the answer
But in the end, we're both consumed by the cancer
Woe is the child of divorced parents
Low is the feeling of no insurance
When you have a leaky boat in the sea
Fighting hard to be what you can be
Left alone to flounder and fail
Sinking fast with no bucket to bale
Held responsible for survival
With sabotage from your rival
When someone says: "Come Hell or high water,"
Look out for the slaughter
You can usually expect to get both
From the very same people who took the oath
The oath to serve the people and not themselves
To protect the country from all enemies - even themselves
How soon they forget the promises made
Until the polls are open and we make a change
As the child grows up and learns to self-protect,
We can learn to fix this country that has been wrecked
As we learn to separate the whey from the curd,
Come Hell or high water, we'll have the last word
When two sides don't agree
It's no longer about you or me
It's not about right or wrong
But more often about how long
How long can we hold out?
How much louder can we shout
We both may think we have the answer
But in the end, we're both consumed by the cancer

HOLDING AMERICA HOSTAGE
Held hostage by indecision
Ransomed for pride
Captives of Congressional opposition
Hijacked by political divide
Caught in the middle between hither and yonder
The people asked for competent leadership
Instead, our liberties have been squandered
By arrogance with a selfish grip
When each side thinks it's a pissing match
Neither side can get ahead
Those in the middle are wishing that
They'd voted for another candidate instead
Elected to office to serve the people,
Self-serving candidates are no better
Than a pole-cat, skunk or weasel
Biting the hand that just fed 'em
A stalemate in Congress serves no one.
Retaliation instead of compromise,
Lowers the dignity on a scale below one,
And accomplishes nothing but more lies
Held hostage by indecision
Ransomed for pride
Captives of Congressional opposition
Hijacked by political divide
Caught in the middle between hither and yonder
