ROUGH 'N READY

YEAGER'S CABIN

Out here in the West the sky is so clear
It seems there is room for me to fill
Next thing to do now is disturb the peace
And build a little cabin home on the hill

Oh, someone has complained about me
And tried very hard to stop me
Just to listen to the rain falling gently on the plain
Around my little cabin home on the hill

Choppers and chainsaws now make the sounds
Where once was heard the mountain bluebird's trill
But Yeager found a way to throw it all away
For a little cabin home on the hill

Why can't they be happy wherever they are
Nevermind the wildlife this project will kill
I found this place so I can be alone
In my little cabin home on the hill

Now when you come to the Wimenuche
Yeager's cabin stands where once was wild daffodil
And you find there's no more happiness for you
But Yeager has his cabin on the hill

Oh, they all complained very loud about me
And tried but failed to stop me
Now I listen to the rain beating on my window pane
In my little cabin home on the hill

Oh, to hell with all those who don't want me
To those who hike the wilderness
To you I'm just a pain in the ass
(But I have) my little cabin home on the hill

REMEMBER WHEN

Remember when the forecast had words
When kids knew how to use verbs
Remember the days before special pronouns
Before shopping malls looked like ghost towns

Remember back when man walked on the moon
What a thrill that now is cast aside like some old tune
Remember finding a penny on the ground
And the thrill of how far it could go around

Remember when milk was delivered to your front door
When kids were excited to get a job on the ground floor
Remember when television only had three stations to watch
When the National Anthem played at sign off

When all the news you needed took 30 minutes to tell
News, sports and weather all wrapped up in a nutshell
When you could cure a lot with a plop, plop, fizz, fizz
And Cronkite told us that's the way it is.

Remember watching a movie through the windshield of your car
With hotdogs, popcorn and Coke from the snack bar
When gas stations didn't sell beer but had a mechanic
And if you needed to know, you asked the Encyclopedia Britannic

When you could buy a whole tank of gas for today's price of a cup of Joe
When you could pay all your bills and still have leftover dough
When you could mail a letter for a five cent coin
And for less than a buck you could eat a good sirloin

The world has changed, but at what price?
What I see, ain't very nice
The cost of progress is too high
When my time comes, I'll be glad to say goodbye
